BCCI unofficially retires jersey number 10

The BCCI is considering retiring the iconic number 10 India jersey worn by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
The master blaster, who is considered the greatest batsman of the sport, retired from international cricket in November 2013, ending his 24-year-long career.
He was last seen in the number 10 jersey in March 2012, during his final ODI against Pakistan.

Since Sachin's retirement, the number 10 jersey remained unused for 5 years before Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur opted to don it for his ODI debut against Sri Lanka last August.
The pacer received a lot of flak on social media, some even accused him of 'trying to be Sachin'.
Not just fans on social media, Rohit Sharma too didn't spare his team-mate.

BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry put in a written request to the senior members of the board to retire the iconic jersey after seeing the backlash on social media following allocation of the jersey to Shardul Thakur.
Unlike football, ICC has no provisions to retire jerseys and hence BCCI has decided it will unofficially retire Sachin's number 10 jersey.

Iconic jerseys always have a strong emotional appeal and it is needless to say Sachin is one of the greatest cricketers produced by this nation.
The master blaster has represented India in 200 Tests and 463 ODIs scoring close to 35,000 runs.
His 100 centuries in international cricket is a world record which is now being chased by current captain Virat Kohli.
