BTK an integral part of int'l cargo transportation: Turkish PM
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway is becoming an integral part of international cargo transportation, the Turkish media quoted the country's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim as saying Nov. 29.
Yildirim noted that the BTK railway will contribute not only to the growth of trade turnover between the countries of the region, but also will increase the freight traffic between Europe and Asia.
Turkey sent its first train, consisting of 32 containers and carrying 650 tons of cargo, via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to Azerbaijan on Nov. 28.
The BTK railway was constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.
The railway's peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year.
