Qatar- Sheikha Moza lauds FM's role during siege

H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Honorary President of Qatar University Alumni Association (QUAA), attended the 9th Qatar University 2017 Alumni Reunion, which was organised yesterday by QUAA in the presence of a number of ministers and officials, in addition to more than 1,500 alumni, especially the batches from 1980 till 1990.

During the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

H H Sheikha Moza congratulated H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, hailing his outstanding role at the head of Qatari diplomacy and his ability to address the claims of the siege countries. 'I am delighted to be present today among a new generation of governors who graduated from Qatar University, and H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, the guest of honour today, is a symbol of that generation. Times of crises test wills, competencies and capabilities, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman embodies all these qualities in the best way, especially in his response to claims from the blockading countries, H H Sheikha Moza said.

For his part, Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said that the Alumni Association serves as a link that binds together thousands of graduates from all over the world and brings them closer to their alma mater.

'I take pride in QU as the University provided the labor market in Qatar and beyond with around 41,000 graduates who are well equipped with the necessary skills and values and who serve their countries in the best way.

Many of QU outstanding alumni became leaders in the Qatari society, and they contribute to the country's development and growth, Al Sada underlined.

QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham noted that since its inception, QU is committed to graduating highly-qualified individuals to join leadership ranks in the labor market.

'QU accomplished many accreditation achievements for its colleges and programmes. Additionally, the organisation has been ranked 349 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2018 and 37 in the QS Top 50 Under 50 2018 ranking among the worlds leading young universities founded less than 50 years ago. These achievements are the result of the ongoing support provided by the country's wise leadership to QU, Al Derham said.

The programmes featured a short film screening on the Association, a live operetta on 'The Story of a Nation performed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, an exhibition for caricaturists from Qatar, Kuwait and Oman, and an exhibition themed 'Souvenirs of a Graduate.

Two speeches were also delivered at the ceremony by the delegations of Kuwait and Oman, on behalf of the University's alumni from sisterly and friendly countries.

The event is organised annually by QU Alumni Relations Office in cooperation with Qatar University Alumni Association (QUAA). The first Alumni Reunion ceremony was held in 2007.
