Tunisian festival honors Kuwaiti woman for defending disabled people rights
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Khaled Jabbar TUNIS, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- The third edition of the Tunisian international festival of disabled musicians and innovators honored director of Kuwait-based women for development and peace institute Kawthar Al-Jowan in recognition of her support to the rights of disabled people.
In a statement to KUNA after the honoring, Al-Jowan said that this honoring is not only for her but for the State of Kuwait which exerts strenuous efforts to promote rights of disabled people and harness their skills and talents.
She expressed appreciation of Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh for her attendance at the honoring ceremony as well as her care for disabled people in Kuwait.
"Al-Sabeeh is one of the greatest backers of people with special needs in Kuwait," she said.
She noted that her institute has organized several conferences and activities to discuss the needs of the disabled girls and women, especially those who are deaf or blind.
The institute would host early next year a forum to deliberate challenges and needs of the deaf and blind women in the Arab world, she said.
Meanwhile, head of Tunisian Ibsar society, the festival organizer, Mohammad Al-Mansouri stated that the international festival of musicians and innovators, which kicked off Tuesday, aim to break the prevailing stereotypes about this important segment of the society in the Arab World.
"We want to give them an opportunity to show their creative works," Al-Mansouri told KUNA.
He pointed out that the third edition of the festival honored director of the institute of women for development and Peace in Kuwait, Al-Jowan in recognition of her great efforts in supporting the rights of blind and deaf women in the Arab World.
He stressed that this festival comes to emphasize the ability of people with special needs to innovate and contribute to their respective societies.
Al-Mansouri pointed out that Arab history is full of great innovators with special needs such as Al-Ma'ri, Ali Al-Husri, Bashar ibn Bourd, Taha Hussein, and Sayed Makkawi.
The three-day festival commenced its activities today with music concerts and theatrical performances from several arts representing several Arab countries such as Tunisia, Iran, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Bahrain. (end) ksj.ibi
