'Blockade has not hit fish supply'
There has been no shortage either in quantities or varieties of fish due to the unjust blockade imposed on the country since June 5 by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, the report said. Consumers said local fish production covers the needs of the country and fish prices have been stable recently. In addition, the Umm Salal fish market offer consumers related services in one place at good prices, which are comparatively lower than at other shopping malls. Besides, the market offers cleaning services for the fish at very low fees. However, many consumers demanded that the market should also be open in the afternoon and evening.
"It is inconvenient for me to come in the morning as I would be at work," a customer said. Murshid al-Kuwari, a Qatari man, said plenty of fish is available at the market. He also observed that the prices are very stable.
The market is a very convenient shopping destination for the residents of the area, he said. Ahmed Hussein, another customer, also stressed that the local fish production is more than enough for local consumption and he has not seen any shortage. The market has more than 20 stalls and all of them offer different varieties of fish at competitive prices.
