Indonesia's capital Jakarta saw the launch of the Global Campaign to End Saudi Politicisation of Holy Places, which is an international movement that rejects Saudi Arabia's politicisation of religious holy sites.
The movement said in its vision that it was founded in response to the reckless Saudi measures which prevents any person they have a political difference with from performing Haj or Umrah. Things then escalated to preventing entire people or sects. It was founded with a focus on Muslim communities in the West including the US, Australia, and New Zealand. It also seeks to protect Muslims right to freedom of worship regardless of their political orientations or ethnic affiliations.
This campaign said it stems from the right of every Muslim around the world to practice the rituals of Islam. In addition, it comes as a normal response to Saudi Arabia's policy of politicizing the rituals of Hajj and Umrah as well as visits to the holy places. Saudi authorities prevent many individuals and groups, and even nations, from their inherent right to worship and access to holy places.

Recent developments also saw Saudi authorities have arrested many Umrah performers because due to their political positions which is not line to Saudi policies. The arrests included individuals from many Islamic countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Sudan.

Furthermore, the authorities have prevented pilgrims from visiting the holy places for many reasons.
The goals of the campaign are to guarantee all Muslims right to freedom of worship and freedom of movement; including visiting holy places in Saudi Arabia and expose the country's unfair practices in that regard. It also wants to hold two international conferences with one edition in Indonesia, and the other in Europe. It aims to put an end to Saudi practices which are unprecedented in Islamic history. The conference would include ranking Islamic personalities known for their independence, in addition to representatives of Muslim communities in the West. They will hold a number of workshops to discuss Saudi violations of those rights.
