Jordan- FM visits recovering Erekat after lung transplant
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington, Nov. 27 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi, late Sunday paid a visit to secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, Saeb Erekat, who underwent lung transplant operation at a hospital in Virginia last month.
During their meeting, the two officials discussed the need to revive efforts to re-launch serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli negotiations to end the conflict on the basis of the two- state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and living in peace and security side by side with Israel.
Safadi and the top former chief Palestinian negotiator, urged Israel to stop building illegal settlements and all its unilateral measures aimed at creating new facts on ground and changing the historical and legal status of East Jerusalem.
Talks also tackled consequences of the U.S state Department decision to close the PLO's office in Washington, calling on the US administration to backtrack on its decision . The two officials reiterated Jordan and Palestine commitment to achieving peace, as a strategic Arab option, under the aegis of international legitimacy.
