Twitter, Facebook down in several Asian countries


(MENAFN- Asia Times) The world's largest social media site, Facebook, was down in large parts of Asia and Australia on Tuesday morning. Twitter was also down in Hong Kong.

Facebook Australia confirmed the local outage, blaming an unspecified technological problem, News.com.au reported.

'Earlier today, some Facebook users were unable to access Facebook briefly due to a technical issue,' the company said in a statement. 'We have now fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused.'

Facebook was down in several Asian nations as well as Australia on Tuesday.

Facebook was reportedly down in Japan, Thailand, India, the Philippines and parts of Australia. The outage, which also appears to be affecting Facebook's mobile app and Messenger, has spread to parts of North America as well, according to DownDetector.com.

Asia Times staff could not access Facebook in Hong Kong on Tuesday morning. Also Twitter was down.

'Something is technically wrong', read a message on Twitter's landing page when Asia Times reporters tried to log in. It went on: 'Thanks for noticing – we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.'
