Oman- 11 patent applications registered till June: MoCI

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said on Saturday that the number of international patent applications registered at its department by the end of June was 11. The ministry said that six applications were registered this year, two in 2017 and three in 2016.

The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) assists applicants in obtaining patent protection internationally. It also assists offices in making patent decisions, facilitates public access to a number of technical information on such patents, as the applicant can seek protection for his patent in many countries simultaneously.

Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, director, Intellectual Property Department, MoCI said, 'The purpose of registering patents is to protect the owners from infringement by others without his permission.'

He added that Oman joined PCT in 2001.
