Pakistan- Press woes: Journalist tortured and arrested in Jamrud


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: A journalist of Mashriq TV was tortured and arrested on Thursday by police on Karkhano check post in Hayatabad.

A group of journalists staged a protest demonstration on Pak-Afghan highway and closed the roads for two hours disrupting the traffic flow.

In this regard, Sher Afridi and Ezzat Gul Afridi lamented that Shehzad Afridi was en route to Jamrud from Karkhano market where he witnessed police checking smugglers at a check post. Shehzad stopped by to record the scene as a result, the police caught his mobile and started beating him.

He added that Shehzad was brutally beaten and then arrested and shifted to Tatara Police Station Hayatabad.

The protestors chanted slogans against police and demanded immediate release of Shehzad. However, the political tehsildar Shah Wazir after negotiations opened the roads and dispersed the protestors.

The journalists are still trying to release Shehzad however talks are underway with the political tehsildar.
