The former Minister had failed to prove that his passport was with the Colombo High Court over another case.

Aluthgamage was arrested earlier after he appeared before the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) to make a statement over the allegations against him.

He was however granted bail after being presented before the Fort Magistrate.

However the Parliamentarian had informed the Fort Magistrate through his lawyers that his passport was with the Colombo High Court and so he could not submit his passport to the Fort Magistrate as part of the bail conditions.

The Fort Magistrate however ruled that the former Minister could not prove that the passport was with the Colombo High Court and so remanded him till tomorrow.

The former Minister was charged with misusing nearly Rs 39 million in state funds to purchase carrom boards and checkers boards in 2014 when he was the Sports Minister. (Colombo Gazette)
