Jordan reiterates support of Palestine at emergency Arab League meeting

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, April 3(Petra) -- Jordan's Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League Ali Al Ayed said that the Kingdom will continue, in coordination with Arab countries, supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land under all circumstances.

In remarks during an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council to discuss the killing of 18 Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border, the envoy underlined the Jordanian and Arab efforts to help the Palestinians regain their freedom and establish their independent state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

We meet today to discuss the repercussions of the recurrent Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, including the attacks on Friday on Palestinians marching peacefully near Gaza's border with Israel to mark the anniversary of Land Day, Al Ayed said.

The ongoing Israeli violence against the Palestinian people is a dangerous escalation that violates the international humanitarian law, charters and conventions, the ambassador said, adding that the continued Israeli escalation is an indication that "we face a difficult situation that would likely worsen in the future".

We strongly condemn the Israeli plans and practices against the Palestinians, he said, affirming Jordan's support of the Palestinians to defend their legitimate rights, territories and the Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The envoy stressed at the meeting, which was called for after the bloody Israeli assaults in Gaza, that Arab countries should work together to stop Israel's attempts to circumvent its legal and international obligations.
