Energy minister says pumping Egyptian gas to Jordan should resume next year
(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar 17 (Petra) –– Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh met with Egyptian Oil Minister Tareq Al-Mulla on Saturday and said that pumping Egyptian natural gas to Jordan should resume in early 2019.
A statement released by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that Kharabsheh briefed the Egyptian minister, who concluded a three-day visit today, on the situation of the Jordanian energy sector and the ministry's efforts to boost local energy sources in the energy mix as part of the national energy strategy.
The Egyptian minister spoke about his country's strategy after the discovery of the offshore Zohr Natural Gas Field in the East Mediterranean, which began production late last year.
He praised the existing cooperation between Egypt and Jordan in the field of energy and the role of the Jordanian ministry in expanding the joint projects between the two countries "to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples". He noted Jordan's experience in reducing the energy import costs and cutting the energy bill by enhancing renewable energy and encouraging energy-saving indistries and the use of electric vehicles.
Mullah said Egypt was ready to boost cooperation with the Kingdom in various sectors, particularly in the field of natural gas for industries and homes.
During the visit, the two ministers opened the Al Samra Power Plant's expansion scheme, phase four, which was carried out by the Al Fajr Jordan-Egypt Co., a venture involving building a 12-inch gas line and a measuring station of 65,000 cubic meters/hour.
