Robot to help its kind connect with humans

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) TIAGo, a mobile manipulator with navigation, perception and grasping abilities, is one the robots on display at the first International Intelligent Robots Symposium at New York University Abu Dhabi.

Developed by PAL Robotics in Barcelona, the robot can be used for research, manipulation of collaborative tasks and human-robot interaction. Its perception, navigation and manipulation abilities make it suitable for research in fields such as ambient-assisted living, healthcare and light industry.

"TIAGo is flexible and configurable, has a large manipulation, navigation and mapping abilities. He has object and facial recognition capability and can be used for human-robot interaction," said Carlos Vivas, business manager at PAL Robotics.

"The mobile manipulator is an example of a collaborative robot, ideal to be used in light industry and healthcare in a near future. By now, TIAGo is a research platform for developing application in those environments."

How can TIAGo help in industry and service sectors?

There are many possible tasks that can be performed by such a versatile platform, from bringing a pill to an elderly person at the right hour, to repeatedly pick and place items in an assembly line. Some applications can be developed to control the robot. For example, learning by demonstration allows the user to teach TIAGo to perform some movements easily.
