UAE hosts 9th Arab Chemistry Olympiad

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, 11th March, 2018 (WAM) -- The Supreme Council of the Union of Arab Chemists approved the UAE’s hosting of the 9th Arab Chemistry Olympiad, as well as Iraq hosting the 38th session of the Supreme Council of the Union and the Arab Chemists Conference.

This took place during the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union during its 37th session, on the sidelines of the 5th Kuwait Conference of Chemistry (KCC 2018), which launches tomorrow under the theme, "Chemistry For A Better Future" with the participation of some 250 specialists from throughout the world.

The UAE turned over to Kuwait the Presidency of the Union of Arab Chemists at the end of the yearly cycle of the Union, which was presided over by Chemist Moza Saif Matar Al Shamsi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Union and Chair of the UAE Chemical Society, amidst praising the UAE for its support of the Union’s activities, events and conferences held last year.

Moza Al Shamsi expressed the Union’s and Society’s pride and honour for the supreme patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, as well as for the chemistry conferences organised by the Kuwait Chemistry Society, in cooperation with the Union.

During the meeting, the attendees from the Arab chemistry unions and societies ratified the minutes of the 36th meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union in Ras al-Khaimah last year.

The Council also confirmed the financial and administrative reports of the Union, and reviewed the past activities of the Arab chemistry unions and societies, as well as material to be printed in the new edition of the Arabian Journal of Chemistry.

Chemist Moza Al Shamsi noted that the UAE Chemical Society will participate in the 5th Kuwait Conference of Chemistry, with a delegation and paper to be presented by Dr. Mahmoud Alawi, Professor of Chemistry.

Al Shamsi noted that the Conference aims to highlight the role of Kuwait’s scientists and researchers in the chemistry field, alongside providing a clear picture of Kuwait’s research and academic activity, especially in that which is related to industry and all fields of life, while pointing out that the Conference reflects Kuwait’s role in serving the scientific and research sector in the chemistry field.

The three-day conference will address a wide ranging agenda including future trends in chemistry education;sustainable industrial chemistry;renewable and alternative energy resources; advance in chemistry of oil and gas industry; green chemistry and waste management; nano and composite materials; biodegradable materials and advanced medical materials.
