(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, March 11 (KUNA) -- US Ambassador to Kuwait Lawrence Silverman said Sunday US State Department Sport Envoy Program, executed by American trainers, contributed to boosting sport relations among countries and peoples around the globe.
Silverman was addressing the opening of a training program for wheelchair basketball players, held at Kuwait Disabled Sport Club, and conducted by Trooper Johnson, the Head Coach of the US women national wheelchair team which would compete in Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
He said Johnson was part of US wheelchair basketball team in 1990-2004, participating in four paralympic games and won many gold medals.
Silverman hoped the Kuwaiti players benefit from Johnson's expertise to enhance the level of their game.
Shafi Al-Hajri, president of Kuwait Disabled Sport Club, said the club's partnership with the US Embassy in sport, social and cultural domains would contribute to multi-faceted development of the club.
Al-Hajri said this partnership began when former US President George Bush Senior visited the club in 1995. He also noted that many Americans living in Kuwait exercise in the club.
The three-day training course opened with a friendly between the Olympic and Lakers, local teams from the club. (end) fsa.bs
