Minister of Planning reviews impact of regional crises on Jordan


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 10(Petra)-- Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury took part in an international meeting in Washington last week and outlined the impact of regional turmoil and the Syrian crisis on the Kingdom.

During his participation in the 2018 Fragility Forum in Washington, which was held under the theme: Managing Risks for Peace and Stability, the minister underlined Jordan's efforts in dealing with challenges resulted from hosting a large number of refugees.

The minister stressed, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the need to support the refugee- host countries to ensure continuation of services, mainly in water, health and educational fields.

Jordan has taken the leadership in the set-up of a response plan to the impact of the Syria crisis on the country by integrating humanitarian and development responses and resources to address the needs of both Syrian refugees and host communities, the minister said, stressing the importance of the international community's support of Jordan in this regard.

The minister was a key speaker in four sessions and other specialized sessions including the opening session, which was which was inaugurated by the World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, the statement indicated, adding that Jordan was invited to the forum in recognition of its efforts in dealing with refugee crises.

The Forum brought together policy makers and practitioners from humanitarian, development, peace and security communities to share practical solutions and explore innovative ways to improve development approaches to foster peace and stability.

Discussions covered how humanitarian, development, peace and security communities could complement and reinforce each other to tackle fragility across a broad spectrum of countries and contexts, emphasizing early action to manage risks. It also discussed means to help host countries prepare and better manage refugee crises.
