(MENAFN - Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Hundreds of enraged residents on Saturday blocked the Kabul-Kandahar highway to protest civilian deaths blamed on gunmen in uniform in southern Ghazni province.
The protestors said gunmen wearing Afghan military uniform killed two civilians including a child and injured two women and kidnapped two men of the same family in Qarabagh district on Friday night. The incident happened in Shirabad area.
Basir Ahmad, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the attackers were residents of Nikhtai locality.
They attacked the house of Ibrahim, killing him and his son. Two women of his family were also injured and two other members of the slain man were kidnapped by the attackers.
He further added some of the attackers wore police and others ANA uniforms and they arrived in police ranger vehicles.
The protestors said they would continue their protest until the attackers were arrested and punished.
Ismatullah Jamradwal, a member of the provincial council (PC) from Qarabagh district, said the incident was unforgivable and those involved should be arrested and brought to justice.
He added if the issue was not resolved, it would turn into a huge conflict between residents of the two areas -- Nikhtai and Shirabad.
The residents of Nikhtai belong to the Hazra tribe and those living in Shirabad are Pashtuns.
Meanwhile, police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman said he was seriously following the matter and the attackers would be arrested at the earliest possible.
He urged the protestors to reopen the highway for traffic and bury the dead.
But at the end of the day, the protesters erected a tent on the road, completely closing it against traffic.
The incident comes months after a clash between residents of the two localities left one person dead. The cash was over a water issue.
