Turkey sees rise in number of divorces

In 2017, 569,400 marriages were registered in Turkey, which is 4.2 percent less than in 2016, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) said in its report on March 2.

The average age of Turkish citizens who marry is 27 for men and 24 for women.

The report reads that the number of divorces in Turkey amounted to 128,400 by the end of 2017, which is 1.8 percent more compared to 2016.

The Turkish Statistical Institute said 38.7 percent of divorces fall on the first five years of marriage.

In 2017, Turkey's population reached 80,810,525 people.

The number of male population of Turkey was 40,535,135 and female population was 40,275,390.

According to statistics, 50.2 percent of Turkey's population are men and 49.8 percent are women.
