Lebanon's economy aid conf. to launch on April

(MENAFN) Aimed to support Lebanon's economy, a major donor meeting will be held on April 6 in Paris, a Lebanese government source said on Tuesday, according to GulfNews.

As being one of three international meetings this year to back Lebanon's economy and army, the Cedre conference, also known as Paris IV, will also help in dealing with the approximately one million Syrian refugees it is hosting.

However Lebanon's finance minister said on Monday the country could not ask for support unless it first passes a budget for 2018 to show potential financial backers that the government is serious about reforming Lebanon's precarious economy.

The country has one of the world's highest debt-to-GDP ratios in the world and growth has slowed to 1-2% from an average of 8% before Syria's war began in 2011 which has cost Lebanon a huge amount of money since it received over a million Syrian refugees.
