(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb. 6 (Petra)- Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury and Secretary General of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Enzo Quattrociocche, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding MoU in which Jordan hosts the 27th annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the EBRD and the Business Forum in May, 9-10, 2018.
During the ceremony, the minister said Jordan will preside over the EBRD meeting, as well as the business forum deliberations, dubbed " Reinvigorating Economies," and added this will be an opportunity to discuss world challenges, particularly bolstering economic growth, addressing climate change and boosting business environment covered by the bank's investments and operations.
Fakhoury described the bank's meeting as " a unique event" which brings together participants representing business leaders, think tankers and decision-makers, and is the first ever of its kind in Jordan.
This EBRD meeting, he said, is held here in recognition of the centrality of Jordan's role and its business entrepreneurship in the region and its discussions will open fresh prospects of investment opportunities in the country.
On a related context, this bid comes in response to Jordan's diverse development efforts and to build on the distinguished reform achievements in political and economic spheres and the expansion of the bank's operations in the Kingdom, he added.
Fakhoury hailed the bank's Board of Governors' selection of Jordan as the host country of its annual meeting, an indicator of confidence in the country's security and organizational capabilities and its infrastructure readiness in the various fields, which will be an opportunity to back conference-based tourism.
Jordan-EBRD cooperation is a true partnership and a success story reflected in the volume of the bank's $1 billion investment portfolio for 2012-2017, to support 36 projects in renewable energy, drug industry, water, sewage, and development of micro- and-medium enterprises, he said.
