Ex-Watergate reporter criticizes released controversial memo

(MENAFN) The recently released memo which accuses the FBI of abused its power has been described as a "disingenuous partisan document" and a "red herring" by the ex-Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein.

On "The Lead with Jake Tapper" of CNN, the former reporter criticized President Trump saying "what we are seeing here is a demagogic, authoritarian president who is using this red herring to contend that there is a 'witch hunt' going on."

He continued "when, in fact, there is a legitimate investigation into what the Russians did, and whether or not the president of the United States and his cohort and aides and family may or may not have been involved in helping the Russians."

He then emphasized that Trump "ought to have enough confidence in our institutions" to let the probe carry on, in case an evidence existed to clear him out of suspicion from the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
