Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation will open a new emergency building at the end of this year. The new facility, a three-fold expansion of the existing Emergency Department, will be the largest in the region, Al Sharq Arabic newspaper reported.
The building will consist of 4 floors and the ground floor will be allocated for simple cases. The emergency cases via ambulances will be attended to at the first floor and the upper floors will be allocated for various services.

The new emergency building will have a special entrance for ambulances so that they are not obstructed at the entrance by cars left by the families of the patients, who leave their vehicles in front of the emergency door to accompany them to inside the emergency building.

One special facility, incorporated within the new building will be a state-of-the-art, multi-place hyperbaric chamber which will provide emergency medical treatment to those involved in diving accidents. This chamber will also offer improved access to oxygen therapy for patients with a variety of medical conditions.

For rapid transfer of emergency patients, this new building will be directly linked to the new operating theatre facility at Hamad General Hospital.

The new Trauma and Emergency Department will cater for the widest range of illnesses and injuries, with a focus on patients presenting with life-threatening medical needs.

The department will also provide the latest technologies like CT scan, MRI, X-ray and this will reduce waiting times considerably.

The new facility with 227 treatment rooms is spread over approximately 30,000 gross square meters consists of tertiary care services ranging from trauma and medical resuscitation to urgent care, short stay, and see-and-treat walk-in services.

The project also consists of other clinical services including a hyperbaric chamber unit as well as nonclinical services including a disaster and management unit, an education and training centre with a 100-seat auditorium, a food and beverage/coffee unit, and a police station.
