Papua New Guinea volcano eruption to force further evacuations

(MENAFN) The Red Cross announced an erupting long-dormant volcano to have forced an evacuation of nearly 1,500 people from islands off Papua New Guinea.

The evacuation of over 500 citizens to nearby Blup Blup Island came as an emergency act after smoke and ash started emitting from Kadovar Island's volcano a week ago.

However, people who were evacuated to Kadovar are to escape to the mainland after the aggressiveness of the eruptions apparently turned even more fearsome.

PNG Red Cross Secretary General declared "the people there, as the volcano erupted, they rushed immediately to escape. So they are in immediate need of food, water, shelter and clothing as well."
