(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The Criminal Court has acquitted two Kuwaiti citizens who work as dataentry clerks in the Manpower Evaluation Department of the Public Authority for Manpower and were accused of forging official documents — the data of a commercial company. The Public Prosecution had accused them of tampering with the labor needs of the company, and changing the evaluation of a company in the system from four workers to 51 workers without any request presented to the authority. Lawyer Jarrah Al-Sharika, who was representing one of the defendants, affirmed that the investigations carried out by the arresting officer were inconclusive. He indicated that there might be an administrative error in the transaction and the possibility that one of the employees other than the accused might have used his client's password to change the data of the company in question.
Scribe fined: The Misdemeanor Court of Appeals upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which ordered the columnist Layla Ahmed to pay a fine of KD 3,000 and show good conduct for a period of three years. The columnist was accused of offending the media figure Halima Boland on her Instagram account. Lawyer Hussain Al-Asfour said the Public Prosecution accused the art critic and columnist Layla Ahmed in July 2016 of using her account on social media to insult Boland through phrases deemed offensive to the latter's dignity.
'Pay worker's indemnity': Labor Section at the Court of First Instance ordered a famous readymade garment company to pay a salesman who served the company for 24 years KD 7,000 indemnity. The case file indicates Lawyer Khawlah Al-Hasawi sued the company on behalf of her client who joined the company as a salesman in 1993 on a monthly salary of KD 210. He worked for the company until the last day in 2013 when the company disengaged him for unknown reasons. The company did not pay him the end of service allowance, unpaid salaries, overtime allowance, public holidays allowance and other entitlements. The man was forced to approach the court after futile reconciliatory moves.
Two officers acquitted: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted the head of a police station with rank 'Captain' and a police officer for using force on a Kuwaiti woman while they were performing their duties. The Public Prosecution had charged the first suspect (head of police station) of taking advantage of his position and using force on the woman. He was accused of pulling her, which resulted in injuries described in a medical report. The second suspect was charged with beating the victim and causing injuries. According to the statement of the victim, the first and second suspects, while executing an order for her to vacate her premises, went to her bedroom and pulled her before handcuffing her even though that she was not resisting. She had asked for the right to pack her belongings but they did not listen to her and instead dragged her out of her house in a woeful condition. The defense counsel Lawyer Khalid Al-Mutairi, representing the captain, affirmed that the events and statements from the investigations are just hearsay without concrete evidence, insisting that both defendants had denied the allegations since the start of the investigations.
