The event was dedicated to the sphere of international legal regulation of transboundary water resources in Central Asia.

The event was organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS).

International experts familiarized the participants with the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses and the UN Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes.

Construction of new and increasing capacities of the existing reservoirs on small rivers and watercourses continues in Turkmenistan, said the report. In particular, considerable funds were invested in the construction project of man-made Altyn Asyr Lake in the Karakum desert.
