Against the backdrop of events taking place in the Middle East, and particularly in Jerusalem after the US recognized the city as the capital of Israel, Ankara, Moscow and Tehran should increasingly strengthen relations in the region, and this may help resolve the issue, Ufuk Coskun, editor-in-chief of Turkey's Bolgepostasi newspaper, told Trend.
Coskun, who is also a columnist at the Milat Gazetesi newspaper, was commenting on the expected visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Turkey.
Coskun said the US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was based on his own political views and a political foundation for such a decision was laid during Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia.
He said while some Islamic countries believe that by such a decision Trump actually declared war to the Muslim world, Riyadh's position, in fact, goes against the general opinion of Muslim states.
'At the same time, Orthodox Christians throughout the world, including in Russia, have strongly condemned Jerusalem's recognition as the capital of Israel,' Coskun said.
