(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 7 (Petra) -- His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah, Thursday, highlighted the need to scale up the tourism sector and devise marketing plans, in a bid to invest in this crucial sector which constitutes a prime mover of the national economy.
During a meeting with Minister of Tourism and Antiquities at the ministry Lina Enab, the Crown Prince underscored that schemes aimed at developing the tourism sector should create more employment opportunities, ensure support of small tourism ventures and show up Jordan as a conference, adventure, religious and medical tourism destination.
Prince Hussein pointed out the need to upgrade online platforms to promote the Kingdom's tourism product, particularly as the vast majority of tourists use the Internet to explore tourist sites.
At the meeting, the Crown Prince also placed emphasis on introducing more incentives and support to tourist facilities, assisting small enterprises and activating low-cost flights, in an attempt to attract tour groups to Jordan.
Moreover, the minister, for her part, reviewed key elements of the 2018-2022 national tourism plan, which her ministry plans to launch in cooperation with the private sector and local communities to enhance the tourism competitiveness, leading to make the Kingdom a remarkable vacation spot, in light of the peace and security it enjoys.
The scheme, she pointed out, aims to maximize tourism revenues through stimulating the sector at an annual growth rate of 5 percent.
As for the promotional policy, Ennab said that the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) plans to magnet tourists with higher spending, including marketing promising types of tourism.
Also, at the meeting, Abed Al Razzaq Arabiyat, managing director of the JTB reviewed key plans that the body seeks to carry out in order to promote the tourism sector in the Kingdom.
He also noted the governments measures to give more tax concessions at borders and airports, including providing incentives to encourage charter and low-cost flights, which contributed to an increase in tourist numbers.
