Macron to discuss Algeria's past in his trip

(MENAFN)French President Emmanuel Macron was likely to discuss the future of Algeria and turn the page on the colonial past, through his visit on Wednesday, however; did not apologize for his country's actions as it was demanded.

No doubt the 1954-1962 independence war where hundreds of thousands of Algerians were killed and tortured has left deep scars.

Former French leader Francois Hollande said his country's colonization of Algeria was "brutal and unfair" and Macron is unlikely to go further.

As President Abdul Aziz Bouteflika has not been seen in public since a 2013 stroke, Macron is to focus on the change of generations and the importance of boosting the Algerian economy and security cooperation.
