By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Sooronbay Jeenbekov, agreed to solve border issues and improve relations between the two countries amid the visit of the Kyrgyz president to Belarus, press service of the Kazakh president said in a message Nov. 30.

'It is necessary to restore family and fraternal relations between our countries. We will jointly control the situation on our border with participation of Kazakh and Kyrgyz parties, as well as representatives of the EEU (Eurasian Economic Union),' said Nazarbayev.

Kazakh president also stressed that the working groups of the two countries will sign a Road Map and work on resolution of the existing issues on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border.

Nazarbayev invited the president of Kyrgyzstan to visit Kazakhstan.

Jeenbekov, in turn, thanked his Kazakh counterpart and announced that he ordered to open the border with Kazakhstan despite current problems with border crossing between the countries.

Previously, relations between the two neighboring Central Asian countries reached a point of escalation after former president of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, accused his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev of supporting presidential candidate Omurbek Babanov, after a meeting between Babanov and Nazarbayev.

However, Kazakh side dismissed the accusations, arguing that Nazarbayev also met with Sooronbay Jeenbekov on the eve of the election and that there was no special sympathy for any of the candidates.

Newly elected President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov stated that he will build a policy based on mutual respect with Kazakhstan.
