UNICEF: Over 11 million children vulnerable in Yemen

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Geneva: Millions of children are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance in Yemen, UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa said.

"More than 11 million Yemeni children are today in acute need of humanitarian assistance. This number makes the 40% of the population," Geert Cappelaere, the regional director, said.

He added that Yemen is one of the countries that faces the highest level of malnutrition in the world.

Nearly 5,000 children have been killed or seriously injured in the last two and a half years, Cappelaere said "Thousands of schools and health facilities have been completely destroyed. Two million children today in Yemen suffer acute malnutrition," he added.
