Iran Rejects Reports Of President Pezeshkian's Resignation

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Iran's presidency has denied reports that President Masoud Pezeshkian plans to resign, describing the claims as unfounded and saying he continues to carry out his official duties as normal.

In a statement, the presidential office rejected speculation circulated by some media outlets and social media users that Pezeshkian could step down amid mounting political and economic challenges facing the country.

The reports emerged as Iran continues to grapple with the aftermath of recent military tensions, economic difficulties and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving disputes with the United States.

Iranian officials said the president remains fully engaged in government affairs and that rumours about his departure have no basis in fact.

The denial comes as Tehran and Washington continue indirect negotiations over a potential agreement following months of regional tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump recently said he would make a“final decision” on a proposed understanding with Iran, while insisting that any deal must meet U.S. red lines and prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

At the same time, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned that Washington remains prepared to resume military action if negotiations fail, underscoring the fragile nature of current diplomatic efforts.

Iranian leaders have repeatedly expressed skepticism about U.S. intentions, arguing that any agreement must be judged by actions rather than promises. Senior Iranian officials have insisted that sanctions relief and guarantees regarding Iran's rights under international agreements remain key issues in the talks.

Pezeshkian took office amid growing economic pressures, including inflation, currency instability and the impact of international sanctions. His administration has faced calls to improve economic conditions while managing complex regional and foreign policy challenges.

Political speculation surrounding Iran's leadership has intensified in recent months as the country navigates negotiations with Washington, regional security concerns and efforts to stabilize its economy after a period of heightened conflict. Iranian authorities, however, maintain that the government remains fully operational and focused on its domestic and diplomatic agenda.
