England To Host Afghanistan's Exiled Women Cricket Team For International Events

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The England and Wales Cricket Board said members of the Afghanistan women refugee cricket team will travel to United Kingdom next month to participate in T20 matches and international cricket events.

According to the ECB, 20 members of the team will begin their trip to England on June 22 in what will be the first official overseas tour for the exiled Afghanistan women's side.

The team is expected to take part in T20 competitions and attend events linked to the Women's T20 World Cup finals being hosted in England, as well as activities surrounding an International Cricket Council meeting in Edinburgh.

Afghanistan women's cricket program collapsed after the Taliban returned to power in 2021 and banned women from sports and other public activities across the country.

Many players later relocated to Australia, where they played their first match as the Afghanistan Women Refugee Cricket Team in Melbourne in January 2025.

The ICC later established a special working group and financial support fund for the team with assistance from cricket boards in England, Australia and India.

Last month, FIFA officially recognized Afghanistan women's football team in exile, allowing it to compete internationally as Afghanistan representative side.
