Iran Urges Iraq To Prevent Use Of Its Territory For Attacks Against Tehran
According to Tasnim News Agency, Bagheri Kani raised the issue during a meeting Tuesday night with Qasim al-Araji at the 14th International Security Conference in Moscow.
The Iranian official said the roots of regional security threats must be addressed and stressed that Tehran is prepared to expand intelligence and security cooperation with Baghdad.
Bagheri Kani also emphasized that Iraqi authorities should take practical measures to stop any hostile groups or actors from using Iraqi territory against Iran.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and continued concerns in Tehran over cross-border militant activity and potential military threats near Iran's borders.
Iran has repeatedly warned neighboring countries in recent months against allowing their territory to be used by armed groups or foreign actors targeting Iranian interests, particularly following escalating regional tensions involving the United States and Israel.
Iraq has long attempted to balance relations with both Iran and the United States while facing pressure from regional armed groups, cross-border security threats, and instability linked to wider Middle East conflicts.
