Pakistan’s Army Chief Holds Talks in Tehran Amid US–Iran Mediation Push
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir met senior Iranian leaders in Tehran amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a lasting end to the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Munir arrived in the Iranian capital on Friday as part of Islamabad’s ongoing mediation initiative focused on facilitating an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
According to official reports, the Pakistani army chief held separate discussions Saturday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
"We will not deviate from the rights of our nation and country," Qalibaf said in his meeting with Munir, warning the US of "more devastating" consequences if it breaks the truce.
Munir also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which Araghchi reportedly outlined Tehran’s position regarding negotiations with Washington.
"The basis of the talks is Iran's Fourteen-Point Plan," an Iranian broadcaster reported.
The latest discussions marked the second round of talks between Munir and Araghchi within less than 24 hours. Earlier Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the two officials had already met Friday in discussions that extended late into the night.
