Bomb Blast Injures Five Israeli Soldiers in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) Five Israeli soldiers were hurt in an explosion caused by a roadside bomb in southern Lebanon, with two of the injuries reported as critical, according to reports released Sunday.

Reports said a commander from the Israeli military’s elite Maglan Unit suffered serious wounds after an explosive device detonated during a military mission in southern Lebanon.

Four additional troops were also injured in the incident, including another soldier reported to be in serious condition.

Earlier, the Israeli military announced that one soldier had been critically wounded while an officer sustained moderate injuries during the overnight explosion.

The statement also noted that another officer and a soldier received lighter injuries in the same blast.

Israeli forces have continued carrying out near-daily attacks in Lebanon alongside ongoing exchanges of fire with Hezbollah despite a ceasefire declared on April 17 and later prolonged through early July.

According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli military operations in Lebanon since March 2 have resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths, more than 9,000 injuries, and the displacement of over 1.6 million people, representing roughly 20 percent of the country’s population.
