Qatar, Saudi Arabia Hold Talks on Easing Middle East Tensions
(MENAFN) Qatar and Saudi Arabia have discussed ongoing efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East during a phone call between their foreign ministers, according to reports.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan reportedly reviewed regional developments, including issues linked to the US-Iran conflict.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the discussions focused on ways to de-escalate tensions and strengthen stability and security across the region.
Sheikh Mohammed reportedly emphasized the need for all parties to respond positively to mediation efforts, noting that such initiatives could help address the underlying causes of the crisis through dialogue and peaceful solutions aimed at preventing renewed escalation.
The ministry also said the two officials reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance cooperation between their countries.
According to reports, the Saudi Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the ministers spoke by phone and discussed steps to maintain regional stability and security.
Regional tensions have increased following military strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran earlier this year. Iran responded with attacks targeting Israel and US-aligned interests in the Gulf region, along with disruption in maritime routes including the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was later reported to have taken effect in April following mediation efforts, though subsequent negotiations did not lead to a lasting agreement. The truce was later described as being extended indefinitely, according to reports.
