US Reports Diplomatic Progress on Iran War, Maintains Nuclear Red Line

(MENAFN) According to reports, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated on Wednesday that Washington is seeing progress in diplomatic efforts related to the ongoing war with Iran, even as the United States continues to uphold its firm position on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Vance said he had held phone discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, presidential adviser Jared Kushner, and several partners in the Arab region.

“I think that we are making progress. The fundamental question is do we make enough progress that we satisfy the President's red line,” Vance said, noting, “The red line is very simple. He needs to feel confident that we put a number of protections in place such that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”

He added that the negotiations remain highly sensitive but emphasized that the administration is currently pursuing a diplomatic approach under the direction of the president. “Obviously, these negotiations are very sensitive,” Vance added, “The president has set us off on the diplomatic pathway for now, and that's what I'm focused on.”

Separately, President Donald Trump said on Monday that the ongoing ceasefire with Iran remains in effect but is “on massive life support,” while also indicating that Washington intends to continue diplomatic engagement with Tehran despite rejecting Iran’s most recent peace proposal.
