Fuel Depot Fire Injures Hundreds in Chad’s Abeche City
(MENAFN) According to reports, a major fire that erupted late Tuesday night at a large fuel storage facility in Abeche, the capital of Chad’s eastern Ouaddai province, left more than 200 people injured.
The casualty figures were confirmed during an on-site visit by Deputy Prime Minister Limane Mahamat along with several other government officials, who assessed the scale of the disaster.
The province’s health delegate, Abdoulmahmoud Chine, told the visiting delegation that 206 injured individuals were receiving treatment across various medical centers in the city, while an additional 53 people remained under medical supervision. He also noted that several patients were showing signs of recovery.
During the visit, Mahamat and his delegation met with victims in local hospitals to express solidarity and support. He also directed authorities to move all fuel depots located inside the city to areas outside urban limits within 10 days as a preventive safety measure.
