Israel Approves Major Emergency Funding for Anti-Drone Systems

(MENAFN) Israel has approved nearly $700 million in emergency funding to accelerate the development of new defense systems aimed at countering drone threats attributed to Hezbollah, according to reports.

The decision was made during an urgent meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with senior military and security officials, as concerns grow over the group’s expanding aerial capabilities in southern Lebanon, according to TV channel.

According to reports, the government approved an immediate allocation of around 2 billion shekels (approximately $687.7 million) to fast-track anti-drone technologies.

The plan reportedly includes the deployment of fixed radar systems along the northern border to protect Israeli communities, as well as the introduction of two additional defensive systems designed to protect troops in the field.

One of the systems is intended for mobile military units and is said to function in a manner similar to the Trophy active protection system used on Israeli armored vehicles, detecting and neutralizing threats before impact.

A second system involves compact mobile radar units for infantry forces, designed to provide real-time warnings of incoming aerial threats so soldiers can respond quickly.

According to reports, the Israeli military also plans to purchase around five million specialized shotgun rounds intended for use in intercepting short-range drones.
