US–China Officials Hold Constructive Trade Talks Ahead of Beijing Visit
(MENAFN) Senior trade officials from the United States and China have held closed-door discussions described as productive and cooperative, as both sides prepare for an upcoming high-level diplomatic meeting in Beijing involving US President Donald Trump.
According to reports, the talks brought together US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in a tightly secured VIP facility at Incheon International Airport in South Korea.
State media reported that the discussions were “candid, in-depth and constructive exchanges,” with both delegations focusing on key economic and trade issues of mutual interest, alongside efforts to expand practical areas of cooperation.
Officials indicated that the meeting was intended to align priorities ahead of the anticipated Trump–Xi summit scheduled for Thursday in Beijing, marking a critical moment in ongoing US–China economic engagement.
The latest round of talks follows earlier economic consultations held in Paris in March, reflecting continued efforts to maintain structured dialogue between the two global powers.
During the same visit, Bessent traveled to South Korea after arriving from Japan, while both he and He Lifeng also held separate meetings with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung before their bilateral discussions.
