US Weighs Renewed Iran Military Campaign Under New Operation Name
(MENAFN) The Trump administration is considering launching a renewed military campaign against Iran under a new operational title, including “Operation Sledgehammer,” if the current fragile ceasefire collapses, according to a report on Tuesday.
A media outlet reported that US officials have discussed replacing the previous campaign name, “Operation Epic Fury,” should President Donald Trump decide to restart large-scale combat operations.
The discussions reportedly reflect expectations within parts of the administration that hostilities with Iran could resume amid stalled diplomatic efforts and ongoing tensions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, some officials believe adopting a new operation name could support the argument that any renewed military action would be legally distinct from earlier operations under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which limits the duration of military engagements without congressional approval.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently said that “Operation Epic Fury” had ended after Washington and Tehran agreed to halt fighting last month and move toward negotiations.
The report added that US military assets in the region have increased since the conflict began in February.
