Türkiye, Belgium Seal Defense Pact in Ankara Meeting

(MENAFN) Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler received his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken in Ankara on Wednesday for high-level defense talks that culminated in the signing of a formal letter of intent between the two nations, Türkiye's Defense Ministry announced.

Francken was welcomed with full military honors at the Turkish National Defense Ministry, where the national anthems of both countries were played as the Belgian minister inspected the honor guard. The two officials subsequently convened for closed-door bilateral discussions, according to the ministry.

The talks yielded a concrete outcome, with a letter of intent formally signed between Türkiye's National Defense Ministry, the Presidency of Defense Industries, and Belgium's Defense Ministry — a development that signals deepening military-industrial engagement between the two NATO allies.

The signing ceremony was attended by Türkiye's Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun and Lt. Gen. Bernard Phaleg, Belgium's national armaments director.
