Palestinian Committee, World Council of Churches Ink Cooperation Pact

(MENAFN) The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine has signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Council of Churches aimed at expanding cooperation and launching joint initiatives in support of Palestinians, according to reports.

The agreement was concluded on Friday in Geneva during a visit by a Palestinian delegation to the council’s headquarters in Switzerland, in the presence of committee head Ramzi Khoury, as reported by an official Palestinian news agency.

Officials said the memorandum centers on promoting projects grounded in principles of justice, peace, and human dignity, while also working to strengthen international attention to the Palestinian issue.

The delegation also held talks with the World Council of Churches Secretary-General Jerry Pillay, focusing on widening cooperation and increasing global advocacy efforts, particularly regarding the protection of Christian communities in the Holy Land.

Further discussions took place at the Ecumenical Institute in Bossey, where both sides explored practical mechanisms for implementing the agreement and activating joint programs.

The initiative is part of broader Palestinian diplomatic efforts to deepen international partnerships and expand engagement in global institutions, amid what Palestinian officials describe as rising Israeli actions in the occupied territories, particularly in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to reports.
