Syria Says It Foiled Alleged Hezbollah-Linked Rocket Plot Near Border

(MENAFN) Authorities in Syria announced on Sunday that they had uncovered and prevented what they described as a “sabotage” plan tied to the Lebanese group Hezbollah in the southern province of Quneitra. The alleged operation was aimed at launching rockets across the border.

According to a statement from the Interior Ministry, the plot was identified during a coordinated effort involving internal security forces and the General Intelligence Service.

As stated by reports, those involved had modified a civilian vehicle to hide equipment intended for launching rockets, with the aim “to carry out a surprise attack,” although no specific target was disclosed.

The ministry said the plan was stopped after authorities closely tracked and monitored the suspects, enabling them to seize the vehicle and the concealed equipment before the attack could be carried out.

According to reports, several individuals connected to the operation were taken into custody.

The announcement came shortly after a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect at midnight Friday, following Israeli strikes on Lebanon that began on March 2 and, according to official figures, resulted in more than 2,294 deaths.

Hezbollah has not issued an immediate response.

Reports also note that the group had denied involvement in a separate case last week, in which Syrian authorities alleged a planned assassination targeting a religious figure.
