Hungary Opposition Leader Calls Election Result “Unprecedented Mandate”

(MENAFN) According to reports, Peter Magyar, leader of Hungary’s Tisza Party, has described the near-final outcome of the 2026 parliamentary election as an “unprecedented majority” and an “unprecedented mandate,” while also acknowledging it as a “great responsibility.”

His remarks came after the National Election Office had processed 99.99 percent of ballots.

Based on the near-final count, the Tisza Party secured 53.18 percent of the vote, translating into 141 seats in the 199-member parliament.

The ruling Fidesz–Christian Democratic People’s Party coalition, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, received 38.60 percent of votes and won 52 seats. Meanwhile, the far-right Our Homeland Movement obtained 5.63 percent of the vote, resulting in six parliamentary seats.

Local media reported that a small number of mail-in ballots are still being processed, but these are not expected to significantly change the overall outcome.
