Amman, April 8 (Petra) -- Jordan on Wednesday welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif regarding an agreement between the United States and Iran to implement a ceasefire, describing it as a positive step toward ending tensions and serious escalation in the region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs affirmed Jordan's support for the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to reach a lasting agreement that addresses all issues that have threatened security and stability in the region over past decades.
The ministry highlighted the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the freedom of international navigation without restrictions, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The ministry also stressed that the ceasefire should lead to a comprehensive and sustainable de-escalation that stops attacks and practices undermining the sovereignty, security, and stability of nations, protects citizens' safety, and strengthens regional security and stability.
