Bannu: When Will Compensation And Promised Jobs Reach Bakkakhel Landowners?

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) In Bannu, elders of the Bakkakhel tribes held an important jirga with the Assistant Commissioner of Sub-Division Wazir, Dr. Ishtiaq Khan, where issues related to compensation for land acquired for government development projects and the provision of jobs to local residents were discussed in detail.

During the jirga, serious concerns were raised over the non-payment of compensation for lands acquired for the CPEC Circular Road, gas pipeline, and canal projects, as well as the lack of employment opportunities for local people.

Participants stated that compensation for land acquired for the CPEC Circular Road has not been paid for the past four years, while local residents have also not been given jobs despite promises.

It was further informed that compensation has also not been paid for land acquired for the 27-kilometer stretch of the canal from Tochi to Baran Dam, as well as for the gas pipeline project. According to participants, 39 individuals were given jobs in the gas pipeline project, but the local population was not taken into confidence during the process.

The jirga also expressed concern over the non-provision of five positions at Bakkakhel Degree College and the failure to implement the agreement related to Bakkakhel Airport.

Participants maintained that at the time of land acquisition for the airport, assurances were given regarding government jobs, but these promises have not been fulfilled.

The elders clearly stated that if their demands are not met, they will approach every possible forum to secure their rights.

The jirga was held under the supervision of Malik Kakan, with participation from elders of various Bakkakhel sub-tribes including Sardi Khel, Takhti Khel, and Narmi Khel, along with representatives from Mamand Khel and Jani Khel. Malik Moez Khan, Masoom Wazir, and other elders played a mediating role.

Amir Shafiur Rehman, Muhammad Ali, Rasool Zaman, Malik Abdullah, and Malik Asad Khan were also present on the occasion.
