Rains Wreak Havoc In KP: How Many Lives Lost So Far? PDMA Releases Report


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a report on the loss of lives and property caused by ongoing rains since March 25 across the province. According to the report, at least 47 people have died and 117 others have been injured in various districts so far.

According to PDMA, over the past four days, 21 people were killed and 40 injured in incidents of roof and wall collapses. The report states that the deceased include 27 children, 13 men, and 7 women, while the injured include 45 men, 21 women, and 51 children.

The report further revealed that a total of 652 houses were damaged due to the rains, including 554 partially damaged and 98 completely destroyed homes.

PDMA stated that these incidents were reported from multiple districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Mardan, Bajaur, Hangu, Mohmand, Kohat, North Waziristan, Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Shangla, Battagram, Lower Kohistan, Mansehra, Torghar, Swat, Upper Dir, Charsadda, Buner, Malakand, Lower Dir, Orakzai, South Waziristan, and Tank.

The authority said that PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant departments are in close coordination, and relief operations are underway. Relief goods have also been dispatched to the affected districts.

The Director General of PDMA has directed district administrations to accelerate relief efforts and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.

PDMA has warned that another spell of rain is expected to continue until April 9. There is also a risk of low to moderate flooding in the Kabul River at Nowshera, along with possible surges in adjoining streams.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from sensitive tourist spots, and follow official advisories.

According to PDMA, the Emergency Operation Center is fully functional, and citizens can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 in case of any emergency or for information.
