UNSC To Vote On Bahrain-Backed Resolution On Strait Of Hormuz

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is all set to vote today (Tuesday) on a Bahrain-drafted resolution regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a media report said.

The 15-member body will vote on the draft at 11:00am New York time, Bloomberg reported.

It said the resolution would allow countries to“respond” to any Iranian attacks on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

A previous version of the draft stated that countries could use“all necessary defensive means” to ensure safe transit through the strait.

China, a permanent UNSC member with veto power, has made clear its opposition to any resolution that refers to the use of force.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Monday, citing a senior Iranian official, that Tehran has rejected reopening the Strait of Hormuz as part of a temporary ceasefire, saying the United States is not ready for a permanent truce.
